Sexual Abuse

If have ever been sexually assaulted, please know that you are not alone. 1 in 6 women will be sexually assaulted in her life time. Most women are assaulted by someone they know and trust. They are not assaulted by the man hiding in the alley. Please know that no matter what the circumstances were, it was not your fault. You do not deserve to be raped. You are not dirty because you were raped. Rape is not about sex, it is about power and control. The rapist wants to control and degrade you because he feels powerless in his own life. He makes himself feel better by controlling you (I am not trying to be gender biased I know females are capable of committing sexual assault too). The feeling you are left with in the aftermath (rage, hatred, depression, etc.) do not belong to you. They are what your rapist gave you. You do not have to be controlled by rape forever. You can regain your life.

It is a long and hard journey but all of you can make it. You do not have to suffer in silence. There are so many people out there who care about you. There are so many people out there who care what you think and care about what you have to say. You are not alone. 1 in 6 women have been raped. I am one of those 1 in 6. You do not have to be silent. If you ever need a friend to talk to there is somewhere you can go. The one thing you should always remember is the rape wasn't your fault. There was no way you could have known that it was going to happen. You couldn't have stopped it from happening. You certainly did not provoke anyone to rape you. No one makes anyone rape them.
